What's So Good about Good Friday?

What's So Good about Good Friday?

What is Good Friday and why do we call Good Friday “good,” when it is such a dark and bleak event commemorating a day of suffering and death for Yahushua?

For Christians, Good Friday is a crucial day of the year because it celebrates what we believe to be the most momentous weekend in the history of the world.

Ever since Yahushua died and was raised, Christians have proclaimed the cross and resurrection of Yahushua to be the decisive turning point for all creation. Paul considered it to be “of first importance” that Yahushua died for our sins, was buried, and was raised to life on the third day, all in accordance with what Yahweh had promised all along in the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3).

1 Corinthians 15:3,4 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.

  • He was seen by Cephas (Peter), then

  • He was seen by the twelve. After that

  • He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remains to the present, but some have fallen asleep.  After that

  • He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all

  • He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.

KEY POINTS

  • “You Must Pass It to Others What You Received”

  • “You Must Stand on This Truth”

  • “You are Saved by This Truth”

For Paul, the gospel begins with the death of Christ on the cross for our sins, but it continues to His burial and, significantly, His resurrection. The alive-again Christ appeared to many people still alive at the time Paul wrote his letter. Paul establishes that the believe in the gospel, includes faith in the physical resurrection of Yahushua from the dead. Also, you must connect that faith to belief in the resurrection of all believers from the dead

The above message came to Paul direct from Yahushua (Galatians 1:12)

So, the first truth of the gospel message is this: “Christ died for our sins”. That is, the sinless Son of Yahweh was sacrificed on the cross to pay the penalty for the sins that we committed.

Access the New Life into the Soul!

Access the New Life into the Soul!

True religion is essentially an inward, free, self-moving principle of divine life. True religion is not merely a system of thought or behaviour constrained by external considerations. Unfortunately, close to 4000 man-made religions are like this.

True religion is the "life of Elohim" (God) within the human soul enlivening and motivating; and is not "driven merely by threatening, nor bribed by promises, nor constrained by laws"

In contemporary language, true religion is more like a larva becoming a butterfly.
When the divine command comes to a butterfly, "Fly!" it feels no burden, no fear, no guilt.

Butterfly just does what it has been made to do: Butterfly not only flies but it sings to the grace of Elohim with every flap of the wing. Now Butterfly is given a new nature of a flier that it did not have when it was a larva in the cocoon (womb). This is a "vital principle" of true religion in the soul.
As per the Word of Elohim, (The God of the Bible), We are created in the likeness and the image of Him with the potential to rule and reign for His glory, (FLY). He tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, and He knew us before He formed us in the womb (cocoon). He tells us that He created us with the potential to walk in His ways, while signing to the grace of Him for the freedom and the freewill he has breathed into us.

When the divine command comes to the larva in the cocoon, "Fly", it has one of three options as to how it can respond. It can be applied to us as well.
1) Butterfly can sink in despair and say, "I can't fly" and there is no hope for me" by looking around its circumstances, Or
2) Butterfly can soar in self-deceit and say, "I am flying" See, there is the ground way down there.", Or
3) Butterfly can cry out to the creator, "Command what you will, and grant what you command, “O My Maker!"

The true and wonderful thing about the above comparison is that it points to the necessity and the miracle of the new birth. To be a Christian, is to be born into a new blood line. It is to have the “new vital principle of life” in the soul. The new vital principle of life  is made possible for all of us  in Christ Yahushua.  The Holy spirit revelation of “the Yahweh’s love” and “the Grace of Yahushua” over us are so important for us, so that the “Commands of Elohim” (thecommandtofly) are not oppressive and burdensome to live by. Instead, it will be like the beckoning of a beautiful spring day and the aroma of a flower-filled garden for a Butterfly.
We are not created to live a mediocre life with lukewarmness, but to impact and fulfill your destiny and purpose in Him for His Glory.
It is only through His breath; we can be transformed into beautiful butterflies.
Yahushua said, The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that you may have life, and that you may have it more abundantly.

Through Christ Yahushua the “law of the Spirit of life” has set us free from the “law of sin and death”.

How will the new butterfly-life of a Christian come into being?
The root of the new, divine life in the soul of man comes through “persuasive faith”. Faith only comes by hearing the word of Elohim.

The "persuasive faith" happens when the truth and beauty of those divine treasures that are in the word of Elohim exhibited to the mind of a person.

There are three effects of meditating and having the "life-giving word of Elohim" in your soul. It can be found in the book of Romans chapter 8.
Romans 8:9 tells us, But you are not in the flesh (blood line of the fallen creature) but in the Spirit (blood-line of Christ), if indeed the Spirit of Elohim dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
  1.  A New Relationship- The life of Elohim in the soul of man brings about a new relationship with Elohim. "Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Elohim."
  2.  A New Leadership- The second thing that the life of Christ in the soul brings about is a new leadership. As per Romans 8:14, "All who are led by the Spirit of Elohim are sons of Elohim." When the Spirit of Elohim invades the soul of man, a new leader emerges, as we are now His sons. But the leadership is not the dominating external constraint of a slaveholder. It is the leadership of a new inner principle of life. (Psalm 82)
  3.  A New Freedom- The new life of Elohim in the soul brings about a new freedom. Romans 8:2 tells us "The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Yahushua has set me free from the law of sin and death.

In summary,
There is a law in Christ Yahushua. But it is something very different than the mere written code engraved in stone. This law is written on the heart. It does not just tell us not to be disobedience to our heavenly Father; it comes with its own power through the indwelling Holy Spirit to break our bondage of sin and it frees us from death which is the penalty of sin.

Choose to forgive

Choose to forgive

Forgiveness releases hurt, heals emotional pain, and removes toxic emotions by cleansing our heart and freeing our soul.

Knowing the detrimental results of unforgiveness and the wonderful peace of forgiveness makes the choice a no-brainer!

“But I Can’t Control My Feelings!”

You may say, “I can’t control my feelings”—and this might be true. However, you can control your thoughts, and your thoughts control your feelings.
Although forgivness is one of the hardest things to do, forgiveness is essential to the Christian faith; and one of the most important lessons we must learn.

Where do I Start?

Step 1: Ask Christ to help you
Yahushua said in Mark 7:15-16, “There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man.Unforgivness comes from within, as such it will difile you.

Yahushua also said in Luke 11:9, “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

  • Ask God to reveal any unforgiveness in your heart.
  • Ask God to forgive you for harbouring bad feelings.
  • Ask God to renew your heart and give you a right spirit and perception.
  • Ask God for His forgiveness toward you.

Step 2: Examine Your Heart

James 1: 23-25 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.  But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

Examine your heart to get an assessment of who you need to forgive.

  • Are you bitter towards someone?
  • Are you harbouring resentment against someone from your past?
  • Does the memory of the hurt and pain overwhelm you again and again?
  • Does anxiety erode your mind as events play over and over?

Write down the names of the persons you have had to forgive for hurting you in some way over your lifetime.

  • Ask God to help you answer the questions below (examining your heart) honestly.

What type of offense was it?
    a) a one-time offense, or
    b) something ongoing (opening the wound over and over).
Did you forgive them?
    a) yes.
    b) no.
    c) I’m not sure.
    d) I’m trying.
    e) I’m waiting for an apology.
Did you pray about the situation?
    a) yes.
    b) no.
Did you pray for the person? (in a positive manner; praying vengeance doesn’t count)
    a) yes.
    b) no.
Do you find yourself having to forgive over and over?
    a) yes.
    b) no.
    c) I’m holding a grudge.
How often do you think of the hurtful instance?
    a) hourly
    b) daily.
    c) weekly
    d) monthly
    e) annually
    f) never.
How much time have you invested in replaying the story of what was done to you?
    a) an hour or less.
    b) several hours.
    c) over the years, dozens of hours.
    d) I’m not sure.
In what frame do you think about it?
    a) lesson learned the hard way. b) pain and agony.
    c) opportunity for spiritual growth.
How do feel when you think of the situation now?
    a) peaceful.
    b) anxious, angry and depressed.

Step 3. Choose to Forgive

Forgiveness is not saying that you weren’t hurt or that the event was fair. It is not finding a redeeming quality to make the person worth forgiving. Forgiveness is an emotional choice you make to give the person over to God and allow Him to handle the situation.

Yahushua said in Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. If the person you need to forgive is not alive or is unapproachable, your forgiveness will be a work in your heart. Allow the Holy Spirit do His healing work.

If the person you need to forgive is alive and approachable, you need to take action:

  • Address the situation. Acknowledge something is wrong and needs to be fixed.
  • Discuss where the relationship veered off course and what wrongs may have been committed.
  • Apologize. Accept responsibility for your actions and seek forgiveness.
  • Do not accuse, or blame, or defend. The goal is to reconcile, not argue.
  • Allow the Holy Spirit do His healing work.
  • Ask, “What can I do to correct this problem?” Be willing to do what is requested.
  • Invest your time, energy, and love in restoring the relationship.

What if They Aren’t Willing to Forgive You?

Firstly, have you sincerely apologised? If so, you don't need to keep asking for forgiveness? You don't need to beg? If they say they forgive you but continue to bring up the problem or the sin, you don't need to get angry because they didn’t forgive you? This can be a vicious cycle, resulting in a serious circle of bitterness.

Here are the steps for you to take:

  1. Forgive them for not forgiving youPray that God will open their eyes and their heart.
  2. Be patient. Recognise that you have no direct control over the other’s thinking, feeling or behavior. It is natural and human to feel offended, mad and resentful when you try to mend differences and the other person won’t respond. This may be something you will have to give to God daily.
  3. Let it goDon’t continue to apologise, as long as you have done so sincerely. Don’t play it over in your mind; it only stirs up anger. Find it in yourself to demonstrate love, concern, and the desire to improve the relationship.
  4. Focus on God’s perfect forgiveness. Psalm 103:12 says It is possible for the Lord to look at us without seeing our sins because when he forgave us, he removed our sins as far as the east is from the west.

Step 4. Take Every Thought Captive

You can do this through prayer, focusing on God’s forgiveness, and focusing on God’s Word.

  1. Pray: When Satan attempts to seduce you into scheming revengeask God to help you take the thought captive by praying for God to fill you with His love. Do not let pride destroy your destiny in God. Unforgiveness will destroy our physical health and psychological well-being.
  2. Focus on God’s Forgiveness: As soon as you are tempted to replay the offense in your mind or to plot revenge, stop and focus on the things God has forgiven in your life. It’s a humbling step. When I recall the depth of grace and mercy God has shown me, it’s hard to focus on their sins.
  3. Focus on God’s Word: Read the story of Joseph (Genesis 37-45), the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15: 11–32), and the parable of the debt (Matthew 18:23–32). Memorize any or all of the verses below:

Ephesians 4:32 – And be ye kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

2 Corinthians 5:5-7  If anyone has caused grief, he has not so much grieved me as he has grieved all of you to some extent—not to put it too severely. The punishment inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient. Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.

Step 5.  Continue to Forgive

God forgives perfectly and forever. Since we are His children, we can do the same.

Psalm 103:11,12– For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

How many times should I forgive?

Peter asked Jesus how many times should he forgive his brother. Peter thought maybe seven times might be a fair limit. But Jesus said “seventy times seven” (Matthew 18:21-22). Of course Jesus didn’t mean literally 490 times, but rather that the number of times are not to be counted.

Newest Religion in the world

The religion of secularism is the fastest growing religion in the western world, and it has taken on a sugar quoted Christianity.

If the world is at a religious precipice, then we’ve been moving slowly toward it for decades. Fifty years ago, Time asked in a famous headline, “Is God Dead?” The magazine wondered whether religion was relevant to modern life in the post-atomic age when communism was spreading and science was explaining more about our natural world than ever before.

We’re still asking the same question. But the response isn’t limited to yes or no. A chunk of the population born in the recent decades respond to the provocative question with, “God who?”

Scientific advancement isn’t just making people question God, it’s also connecting those who question. It’s easy to find atheist and agnostic discussion groups online, even if you come from a religious family or community. And anyone who wants the companionship that might otherwise come from church can attend a secular Sunday Assembly or one of a plethora of Meetups for humanists, atheists, agnostics, or skeptics.

The groups behind the web forums and meetings do more than give skeptics witty rejoinders for religious relatives who pressure them to go to church—they let budding agnostics know they aren’t alone.

The above picture is a church service in Berlin that uses Star Wars to engage the congregation.

Stand-up comedians Sanderson Jones and Pippa Evans started the original Sunday Assembly in a decommissioned London church in January 2013, and by September 2013 they had five congregations in the Sunday Assembly Everywhere (SAE) denomination, including in Melbourne, Australia.

Their goal was to have "a godless congregation in every town, city, and village that wants one" — and they were hoping to have 30 to 40 by the end of December 2013. If they reach that goal, the Sunday Assembly says in a press release, "the 3000 percent growth rate might make this non-religious Assembly the fastest growing church in the world, catering to the fastest growing belief / non-belief group."

Common sense tells us that we need at least 4 basic elements to survive- Water, Air, Food and Light, Even the religion of secularism will not be able to deny this truth.

In the Bible, the living Word of God, Yahushua said,
1. I am the LIVING WATER
2. I am the BREATH OF LIFE
3. I am the BREAD OF LIFE
4. I am the LIGHT OF THE WORLD

He further said, without me you will not have life in its fullness and anytime you feel overwhelmed in life, come to me, I have prepared a table for you with everlasting nourishment.

One day the religion of secularism will let you down and I have no doubt about it. But remember, your broken live can be turned to a purpose filled living, If you let Christ to do the mending.

Hearing the voice of God

Hearing the voice of God

Prayer is not just a one-way communication to God. An average Christian generally keeps talking to God, when he prays, He takes a lot of time to tell many things to God, makes several requests and shares all of his burdens to Him, He does not really listen to what God has to say. As a matter of fact, one should be more interested in hearing the voice of God than speaking to Him. After all, God knows our thoughts and what we are going to say before we say it. What is more important is to discern what God has in His mind and what He wants us to know. The communication or the message that we receive from God has a lot more value than what we tell Him.

What we may hear from God could fall under one of the following categories: -
1)    An answer to our prayer by way of witness in our spirit
2)    An assignment that God gives us
3)    A revelation about the creator
4)    An interpretation to a dream
5)    A word of wisdom or knowledge
6)    A prophecy for us or for others
7)    An interpretation to a prophecy given in tongues
8)    A desire in our heart for something good
9)    A thought in our mind to pursue something
10)    A warning of God
11)    A signal from God telling us not to do something that we are planning to do
12)    A word of comfort or encouragement
13)    Some spiritual truth that will edify us spiritually
14)    Some answer to our question for which we were seeking an answer
15)    A solution to a problem that we are trying to solve
16)    A strong conviction in our spirit either to do or to refrain from doing something
17)    An approval from God for something that we want to do
18)    A signal to go ahead and to do something which we were hesitating to do
19)    A reminder of a scripture at an appropriate time.
